Hockey event postponed over insecurity

THE hockey event of the National Sports Festival South-South Zone One Team Sports elimination event holding at Samson Siasia stadium, Yenagoa has been postponed till further notice due to poor security at the venue.This was the decision reached by the Director of Sports, of the three states taking part at the event as a result of the fracas that occurred on match day one between Team Bayelsa male hockey and its counterpart from Edo in which players and officials of the visitors sustained various degrees of injuries.According to information gathered, it was agreed that since the host state failed to provide enough security before and after the encounter, they were forced to shift the game to a neutral venue away from the zone in order to guaranty the lives of their athletes against any other possible occurrence.They added that the decision for the another venue and dates would be communicated to one another since the affected state, Edo players believed to have lost confidence in the host state fans.Some of the Edo State officials who spoke to Tribunesports stated that it would be unwise for them to have continued the game because of what happened to their players, adding that the decision was best in the interest of the players and officials lives.
