Tuface' Simple, natural to the fabric

Published by Guardian on Sun, 09 Oct 2011

INNOCENT Ujah Idibia, popularly known as Tuface, bestrides hiphop music scene in Africa; and is gradually stamping his feet on the world circuit too. Since his emergence on the scene in the late 1980s, the Benue State-indigene has carved a niche for himself as a simple but comely figure. Style in both dress and music are natural and simple to him.But more than his music, the Idoma-born artiste has a large heart. Through his foundation, he regularly gives back to the society, a large chunk of what he is earning. Though Tuface does not consider himself a style icon, his fashion sense, which is tagged free style, has become enduring. He, however, admires two of the world most stylish celebrities, David Beckham and Brad Pitt.A glimpse of Tu Baba's style Catch your fancy'My style can simply be tagged as free style. It has indeed evolved over the years, you know. I don't have a favourite designer. Anything that catches my fancy,I just go for it,' says Tuface. He adds, 'for BET Awards, I wore a new Italian designers outfit, Allion Gutaur. Sometimes, you can just see me with Gucci glasses, Ferragamo shirts and Burberry belt; i just buy whatever quality piece I can lay my hands on as long as it catches my fancy.'Quality is it'I am not a really a designer freak. One good thing about wearing or buying designers is that it assures of a good quality and; definitely, you know you can get your money's worth. For me, it is all about quality, not necessarily the label.' Seek out a new pair of sunglassesSunglasses are a great way to express yourself too. The interesting thing about this ultimate accessory is that you could simply be wearing jeans and probably, a t-shirt, and with the right glasses you suddenly look fashion savvy. Like Tuface, you may want to have a couple that are bold and some that is subdued. This way, you can match your glasses with your mood or outfit..Treat yourself to one or two super piecesIf you can afford it, try buying one or two great pieces that will really keep you looking stylish. This may be a cool sport coat, a jacket or an awesome pair of jeans that really shows off your assets. Whatever it is, make sure it's something that you know you will wear often and is flattering.Sport a snappy beltYou may have noticed recently that elaborate belts with interesting buckles have become quite the fashion statement. The truth is that they can be bold, quite inexpensive as well. Many feel that the bolder, the costlier, but it is not.Avoid tattered feet A tattered pair of shoes is always a turn-off. Whether you are wearing dress shoes or sneakers, keep them looking the best. This may just mean getting a shoeshine or picking up a new pair altogether. It's in the shoesThere are two type of shoes ' Classic and Trendy. It does not matter which one you choose, but if you are into the classic, you get what you pay for; just like the singer invests in shoes. A classic shoe should last you your entire life, however, if Trendy is your thing, you don't need to rob the bank, have it in mind that they should take you through three seasons at the most.Tuface says, 'I love shoes a lot and the funny thing about me is that once I buy any one that I really like, I will keep wearing the pair for a long time, even though I have so many others.' Get a groovy watchJust like some celebs, Tuface has a hunch for watches. Since men don't have many options when it comes to jewellery, this is a great way to express yourself as well as liven up your look. He says, 'my most expensive fashion accessory is my Frank Muller wristwatch, which I got for 18,000.'Have confidenceIt does not matter if you are a fig leaf, with confidence you can pull it off. 'My style has indeed evolved over the year you know. For me, it just go for what I feel comfortable in.' Smell good As much as we love to look and smell good, it is advisable not to overdo it. However, a nice subtle scent will take you a long way.
