Nigeria has no CAF-certified coach, says Green

Published by Guardian on Wed, 12 Oct 2011

NO Nigerian coach has the Confederation of African Football (CAF) basic certificate, which is a prerequisite for anybody to aspire to become the technical director of any African country, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Committee Chairman, Christopher Green, has revealed.Green, who spoke to journalists on Monday in Lagos, said the NFF has started searching for a technical director to ensure that the national teams are not left solely in control of an individual, adding that the search has been taken beyond the shores of the country.According to Green, who regretted that Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2012 Africa Nations Cup despite the huge support the Super Eagles got from the federation, the employment of a technical director has become more urgent following the recent collapse of the national teams.'It has not been easy to appoint a technical director because they are not easy to find,' he explained. 'Because there is no Nigerian with a CAF license, we started running a programme that will help us produce coaches with even the UEFA license. The technical director's job is not foreclosed to Nigerians. We will look at suitable coaches for the job from any part of the world and the search begins now.'On the belief by some Nigerians that the Super Eagles failed to beat Guinea last weekend because the NFF ignored Prophet T.B Joshua's prophecy before the game, Green said it was wrong for anybody to hinge the failure on that.He said: 'T.B Joshua is a Nigerian and if what he said came from God we expected him to pray to cancel it. This country belongs to all of us, we all sing the national anthem, so any Nigerian who has the privilege to help the country is expected to do that.
