Bayelsa PDP crisis deepens over gov primary

The crisis rockingBayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) worsened on Monday, following reported moves by the camp of Governor Timipre Sylva to obtain a court injunction to restrain the party from conducting fresh primary in the state.It was learnt that the governor's men had approached a court in the state seeking to secure an injunction to restrain PDP from conducting another primary ahead of the February 2012 governorship election.The camp of Sylva's opponent in the primary, led by Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson, has, however, written the Chief Justice of Bayelsa State, asking to be joined in all suits which are targeted at stopping the primary.In the letter dated October 14, 2011 by his counsel, Mr F.N Nwosu, Dickson said he was aware of plots to stop the conduct of fresh primary in the state by his opponent, using the instrumentality of the court.The letter was entitled Re:Suit No YHC/07/2011 and other similar suits. Notification of the governorship contest between Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson and His Excellency Governor Timipre Sylva in the PDP and the desperate attempt to shut out Honourable Dickson.The letter read: 'For example, during the just concluded court vacation, one Mienyeobafa Fafa Stephen-Gow filed the above mentioned suit at the Yenagoa High Court and proceeded to have the suit heard by the vacation court which refused his application for injunction to restrain our client's political party (PDP) from organising a primary election to select a candidate for the Bayelsa State governorship contest to fly the ticket of the PDP in February 2012.'The said claimant is not an aspirant in the election according to his own court processes. Matter is now pending at the High Court 2, Yenagoa.
