MultiChoice Nigeria appoints new MD

MultiChoice has announced the appointment of Mr John Ugbe as Managing Director of MultiChoice Nigeria effective from November this year.With this appointment, Mr Ugbe becomes the first Nigerian executive to be appointed to this senior position, according to a statement.At a special ceremony to send forth the outgoing Managing Director, Mr. Joseph Hundah and also unveil his successor, Mr Ugbe, Chairman of MultiChoice Nigeria, Mr. Adewunmi Ogunsanya described Ugbe as an experienced executive who will be able to lead the company into a new period of growth and expansion, adding that as technology evolves, the traditional pay television model is changing and the industry is becoming more complex. 'Just over 15 years ago we set out to deliver the best home television entertainment in Nigeria ' our mission now is to deliver the best digital entertainment and information any time, on any platform and anywhere in Nigeria. Hence, we are delighted to have a candidate who has a solid understanding of technology as well as operations who will take MultiChoice Nigeria into the future,' he said.Ugbe joins MultiChoice from iWay Africa Nigeria with a wealth of experience and proven leadership skills in a number of different functional areas. He is also not new to the MultiChoice business having originally joined MultiChoice in 1998 as the IT manager. Ugbe is a solution oriented ICT expert and business manager with over 14 years experience in all areas of ICT. He has passion for web internet technologies, particularly about motivating and managing people.He was born 39 years ago in Cross River State, South- South Nigeria; he had acquired a key understanding of various technologies and engineering foundation in the industry.Ugbe is a graduate of electronic and computer engineering from the Federal University of Technology Oweri and holder of an MBA from the University of Liverpool.The colourful send forth ceremony held at Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Lagos, had in attendance, Director General of Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Mr. Yomi Bolarinwa, Mr. Ogunsanya, and other management staff of the company.
