Preventing Mildew

FOR some cities across the country, it has been days and nights of heavy rainfall, prompting many homes to shut doors against wind and cold. This condition is likely to lead to little air movement. It is also capable of causing some conditions such as growth of mildew, which will create musty odour.Mildew leaves ugly black stain, which can rot such materials as fabric, leather and paper.It can also cause some problems for those with allergies.Mould and mildew are hard to remove, but not hard to prevent. Being tiny plant, create conditions that make it hard for them to grow.To keep the home free from mould and mildew:' Keep things and places clean. Even small amounts of dirt or dried food will help mildew grow. Keeping closets, drawers, walls and clothing clean will prevent many mildew problems.' Be sure there is air movement in all areas.' Open windows to let outside air in, if the weather is good.' Leave closet doors and dresser drawers open sometimes.' Be sure clothing is dry when stored.' Hang it loosely in the closet.' Store items where they will not get damp.Don't put furniture tightly against the wall.' Do not put damp clothing on the floor, especially a cement floor.' Protect leather goods by applying a paste-wax shoe polish or saddle soap.' Store shoe, purses and suitcases in closets.' Never put shoes or leather items away damp.
