Published by Punch on Sun, 06 Nov 2011

Public sector institutions can leverage on Information and Communications Technology infrastructure to deliver more efficient services, the management of Galaxy Backbone Plc has said. In a statement signed by Head, Customer Operations at the public sector ICT infrastructure firm, Mr. Yusuf Kazaure, the company said it would dialogue with public institutions on modalities for realising efficient service delivery through ICTs would be discussed. Kazaure said the forum would also feature the public presentation of ISO/IEC 27001:2005 Certification to Galaxy Backbone Plc by the British Standard Institute. He said, "The Public Sector ICT Infrastructure Forum is a Stakeholders Awareness Series hosted by Galaxy Backbone Plc to engender dialogue on how public institutions and other stakeholders can further leverage the benefits of ICT infrastructure and services to deliver efficient public sector services. "Galaxy Backbone plans to use the opportunity of the ISO/IEC 27001:2005 certification to raise stakeholder awareness on information security issues such as cyber security, information security, disaster recovery and business continuity planning and its implications for supporting the role of ICT in governance and national development. "The company commenced the journey to ISO/IEC 27001:2005 certification in 2009. Over this period, the company focused on the key objective of putting in place a globally accepted standard of information security management process that would guarantee the trustworthiness of its Data Centre services and Network Operations Centre." According to Kazaure, the certification process involved the auditing and verification of Galaxys Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) practices by the British Standards Institute. He said passing a rigorous audit of this nature conducted by such a world-renowned standards body established Galaxy as a Nigerian company with processes at par with global standards. He added that the certification was also a positive milestone for the Federal Government as it resonated with the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan and underscored governments commitment to achieving the National Vision 20:2020.
