Eagles coach will be under pressure ' Hamilton

Published by Punch on Mon, 07 Nov 2011

Former Green Eagles coach, Paul Hamilton, believes Stephen Keshi will be under pressure from Nigerians to take the team back to winning ways after Nigerias failure to make it to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.Keshi, who was named as Samson Siasias replacement on Wednesday, called for patience from Nigerians as he promised to rebuild the team before their crucial 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Rwanda in January.Hamilton said Keshi would succeed with the Eagles but feared the pressure might drive him too hard."Hes qualified to manage the team and I believe hell deliver the goods. But I fear Nigerians may be impatient with the team. The disappointment of missing out on the 2012 Nations Cup has yet to abate," Hamilton said on the telephone on Sunday."One very good thing the Nigeria Football Federation has done is to have the two friendly games against Botswana and Zambia. It means they are ready to assist the team, Keshi will have no time to relax; hell be under pressure to win games."On the issue of indiscipline which bedevilled the team under Siasia, Hamilton said Keshi had the personality to command respect among the players and good enough to determine the best form of punishment."Keshi played under me and I know his leadership qualities will come to bear in his new job. He had a similar problem in Togo involving Emmanuel Adebayor, but he handled the situation very well," he said."It is important we have a coach like Keshi who has got the experience in managing other national teams at crucial stages."
