Watch It: Do Not Rely On Quacks To Handle Your Pets!

Published by Guardian on Mon, 07 Nov 2011

THE inherent danger in self-medication has become evident for a lot of people who lost their puppies and juveniles recently due to the activities of quacks who take it upon themselves to treat pets because they think they know what the vets know, when, indeed, they know practically nothing!I really sympathize with the innocent owners who are caught in the crossfire, suffering direct and collateral damages in the process. Actually, what is wrong is the lax attitude of those who should care and the inexplicable propensity of owners to engage cheap services. As they say, good things do not come cheap. Premium services require premium remuneration. But, this is not to say that veterinary services are costly at all times'far from it. However, preventive strategies, if well deployed, often result in minimal financial commitments in the long run. The truth is that you cannot get the right thing done, the wrong way. There is always a penalty for not doing things the right way.So, rather than suffer the quantum losses recently experienced by some pet-owners, it would have been more reasonable to engagea thorough-bred professional who will discharge his duties to the best of his abilities; somebody who can be accused, who can be reported to his colleagues, to his association in case of any breach of professional ethics; in other words, someone who is accountable. But, when you take somebody from the streets without a known address, somebody with crooked reference-whose only claim to the profession of veterinary medicine is that he had hitherto worked with a vet, then, it becomes very dangerous to entrust the lives of your pets to such a person. It is profoundly wrong. This happens everyday and it is so amazing that the pet owners when confronted about this, do not really have any cogent reason why they engage quacks to tend to the medical needs of their pets, other than some mundane cost-saving considerations!I do not doubt the ability of such people to walk your dogs, pet-sit for you or even wash your pets as needed. But, when it comes to the intricate art of veterinary medicine, they simply do not measure up to standard and should never be engaged. They lack the knowledge, do not possess the wherewithal and are a menace to the health of pets!Sometimes, I have found it extremely difficult to believe that highly placed people in society who are themselves professionals do not engage the services of real vets. Most of the time, they claim ignorance of the fact, asking whether, it is compulsory that a mere animal should be invested in, in that way. They are the guiltiest. I have even encountered a lot of medical doctors who allow veterinary quacks to tend their pets. Isn't that amazing'And if you must know, that is where my fears lie. If people of such status and understanding can engage the services of quacks, then, there is really a big problem. All in all, the quacks initially come cheap but cause a lot of bigger losses, which cannot be quantified by the pet owners. The engagement of these people only shortens the lives of pets, breaks the intricate bond they share with their owners and turns people into emotional wrecks when they lose their pets or get them maimed.
