Onipon Estate 'll smile soon - Oluyole LG boss

Published by Tribune on Wed, 09 Nov 2011

The Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mr Abass Ayodeji Aleshinloye, has appealed to the residents of the Onipon community to be patient, saying they would soon overcome the hardship they were passing through.Reacting to the protest of the residents recently over the neglect of the area in terms of provision of social amenities, particularly the deplorable state of Onipon Estate road, the local government boss said despite the fact that the past administrations failed to rehabilitate it, he promised to do his best before the end of the year.According to him, 'we have more than 300 communities within the Oluyole Local Government, not only that, we have mapped out strategic plans to make sure that we touch every community, but unfortunately, we are still battling the aftermath of August 26 tragic flood, and Onipon community was one of the places badly affected.'We have limited funds, that is why we prioritise. For example, if we have a project worth N300 million and we don't have more than N10 million or N15 million, we have no choice but to prioritise by doing the most important project.'Oluyole Local Government should be declared a state of emergency because it happens to be the worst hit during the flood. When we pay salaries, we don't have enough funds to carry some lined up projects. I have called for assistance from the state and Federal Governmens for their support in terms of fund.'Mr Aleshinloye also pointed out that due to the rainy season, Onipon area may not be upgraded now or else, according to him, 'it will turn out worst than before, but I assure my people that it is listed for grading and before the end of this year something tangible would be done. Work will commence immediately after the rainy season,' he said.
