Published by Business Insider on Thu, 04 Dec 2014

The fastest production cararound the Nrburgring, at least officially, is Porsche's 918 Spyder, which late last year was driven around the 12.9 miles of the Nrburgring Nordschleifein just 6:57. Shortly after, McLaren stated that its P1 lapped the 'Ringin under seven minutesbut refused to give an official time, perhaps because it didn't want to delve deeper into the somewhat dangerous spitting contest. Now Koenigsegg, maker of the world's most powerfulcar, says it fully intends to set a new production record, first with its1,160-horsepower Agera Rand then again with the lighter and more aerodynamically-honed1,341-hp One:1. The information was revealed toCar and Driverby Koengisegg founder Christian von Koenigsegg, who conceded that the setting of Nrburgring lap times has become one of the ways makers of performance carsprove themselves.Koenigsegg was seen testing its Agera R at the Nrburgring earlier this year butthe car ended up crashing. According to von Koenigsegg, the team will be back in 2015 for its record attempt. At this point, it's not clear whether the firm's official test driver Robert Serwanski will hop behind the wheel for the attempt or whether they'll hire a ringer. How fast a time can we expect' Insiders have said a figure 'in the 6:30s' is a realistic target.SEE ALSO:The Astounding New Ferrari FXX K Is A 1,000 Horsepower Hybrid!Join the conversation about this story
