Technology minister urges NASME to go digital

Minister of Communication Technology, Mrs Omobola Johnson, has urged members of the National Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME) to increase the presence of their businesses on the internet to facilitate growth and improved sectoral contribution to the nation's gross domestic product (GDP).The minister said this in her office recently Friday when she received members of the Governing Council of NASME who paid her a courtesy visit in Abuja. She urged NASME to embrace the use of Information and Communication Technology ICT in their business activities and tasked the Governing Council to sensitize and enlighten members of the Association to deploy the tools of ICTs to expand the horizons of their business. The Minister who described SMEs as the engine that drives most economies, stressed that creating website for the businesses of SMEs would widen their access to market and boost the revenue drive of the SMEs.She said that many SMEs have increased their market share and grown their business portfolios tremendously by registering their presence online.Speaking earlier, the President/Chairman of the council, Dr Ike Abugu solicited for collaboration of the Ministry in order to improve the productivity of SMEs in Nigeria. He said that SMEs contribute to the GDP of the Nigeria and should be encouraged by government to thrive through the provision of an enabling environment and the right policies that will enhance the growth of the SMEs
