THE Oyo State Government has pledged its commitment to sports development just as the maiden edition of the state Special Sports Festival comes to a close today at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium with Iyanda Abiodun winning gold in the male catogory of 100mT11 of the athletics event in 11.7 seconds.Making this commitment was the Oyo State Deputy Governor Otunba Moses Alake Adeyemo who at the same time commended the sponsor of the festival;Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation(NDIC),saying that government will ensure that it pays more attention to sports in the state, calling on the special sports athletes to see that there is ability in disability and that they should use the games as an avenue to improve on their performance and at the same time make friends.In the female category,Arinoye Oluwaseyi picked the gold medal in the female category in 13.29 seconds,while Lawal Ayankemi of Ogun State followed with 15.51 seconds and Saidat Adeyemo placed third with 16.68seconds.Tijani Damola of Ibadan zone placed second with12.07 seconds and Adesokan Afee in third place with 15.44 seconds.In 100mT12 male catogory;Akinyoola Akinbobola of Ibadan won the gold medal at stake in11.93secs,while Wojuola Yinka followed with14.07secs,withDeborah Adewale of Ibadan winning in the female category with12.55secs and Esther Akinleye picked silver with 15.00 secs.In the Shot Put F 53 category for male,Tosin Alo won with 5.29m,followed by Akeem Isreal with 5.15m and Sunday Olanlekan won bronze with 2.95m,and in the female F 55-56 class,Toyin Alayande won with 4.81m,while Affor Esther picked silver with 4.45 and Latifat Salami won bronze with 3.48m.The final of the table tennis in both female and male categories will be decided today as part of activities marking the closing ceremony of the games.Speaking with the Tribunesports Mrs O J Adegoke,Director of Sports,ministry of youth and sports described the competitons as highly competitive going by the determination of the athletes,saying that''the athletes have giving a good account of themselves more than expected and i am optimistics that the next edition will even be more tougher'',she said.
