DEFENDING champion, Kazeem Adeniyi, has reaffirmed his determination to hold on to his title in the men's event of the Lagos Table Tennis League, which enters week three today at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Rowe Park.Adeniyi last week halted the dominance of Union Bank Sports Club in the competition, winning the title in week two ahead of the bankers' boys like Jide Ogidiolu, Kazeem Makanjuola, Sarafa Adeleke and Sunday Odunlade. The player, being sponsored by a Lagos-based businessman, Babatunde Fashanu, believes he has the wherewithal to hold on to the diadem today. 'I am not ready to allow anybody to dethrone me because I am in good form at present having trained hard. Most of the players taking part in the championship are capable of winning the competition. But having won the week two, I am hoping to dominate till the grand finale in December,' he boasted. He commended the organisers, especially the state's Commissioner for Youths, Sports and Social Development, Wahid Enitan Oshodi for staging the competition, adding, 'I think this kind of competition will keep us in good form for any major championship. We are happy that it is coming at the right time when the game has been on the decline,' Adeniyi said. To the technical coordinator of the tournament, John Peters, the competition has thrown up a lot of talents, which if well nurtured would dominate the game in the country. 'I think the two weeks have been exciting because the week one champions were edged out in the week two game. This is indeed a good development as nobody is sure of winning the tournament. But one fortunate thing is that most of the players are giving their best and this will help us to know the best among them,' he said. He added that the dominance of players from Union Bank was halted in week two following the early exit of week one champions, Ogidiolu and Amina Fashola, in week two. 'We are looking forward for surprises each week and we believe it will also happen again this week,' he said.
