Police arrest 23 in Kano for various offences

By Fanen Ihyongo, KanoAt least 23 suspects have been arrested by police detectives for allegedly committing various crimes in Kano state and its environs.The suspects include armed robbers, cybercriminals, mobile phone snatchers and drug dealers, Police spokesman Abdullahi Haruna said on Tuesday.12 of the suspects, who belong to a robbery and handset snatching syndicate, were nabbed by a Team of Operation Puff Adder, led by SP Bashir Musa Gwadabe, following reports from residents of Sharada, Sauna and Sabon Gari Quarters of Kano Metropolis.The suspects, who were arrested in possession of dangerous weapons, revealed they are addicts of intoxicating drugs.Their revelations led to the arrest of four notorious drug dealers who supply hard drugs to thugs, known in the local parlance as Yan-Dana.234 wraps of Indian hemp, 11 bags of Exol tablets, seven sachets of Diazepam and six sachets of Diazepam were recovered from the drug dealers.READ ALSO:Family of three dies in Kano firePolice said, one Abdulsalam Isah of Gwagwarwa Quarters, Kano, had reported that an unknown person stole his Samsung Galaxy T5 Pro handset valued N180, 000 and used his SIM card to withdraw the sum of N330, 000 from his account.Upon receiving the complaint, the Commissioner of the Police (Habu Sani) raised and instructed a team of Operation Puff Adder, led by DSP Shehu Dahiru, which arrested the perpetrators -six of them. The stolen phone was also recovered, Haruna, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said.Another suspected fraudster, Umar Isah, 19, was also arrested for impersonating a businessman and using WhatsApp to swindle N333,000 from the bank accounts of Auwalu Usman Abdulmalik and Buhari Yusuf, all of Bachirawa Quarters Kano. The suspect confessed the crime.Kano Commissioner of Police, Habu Sani, appreciated Kano people for supporting the police in the fight against crime. He pledged the Command will remain committed in safeguarding lives and property.
