UNODC partners GISA on substance use prevention in schools

Experts have called for an effective prevention testing across the country adding that this will save a lot of money spent on addressing negative consequences of drug usage.Speaking at a 6-Day Training of Teachers on Evidence Based Substance Use Prevention in Selected Schools in Lagos State and held at Unique Heights Schools, Isheri, Berger, Lagos, the National Project Officer, United Nation Office on Drug and Crime UNODC, Dr. Akanidomo Ibanga pointed out that this defect is not peculiar to Nigeria, alone .Report in U.S shows that 16% of their national budget is spent on addressing the negative consequences of drug usage.This is why UNODC is partnering Global Initiative on Substance Abuse (GISA) to pioneer the real substance Use Prevention and this is an opportunity for Lagos to receive effective based prevention testing for participants said Dr. Ibanga.Participants expected to receive training under this project according to the Founder, GISA/ Project Director, UNODC, Dr. Martin Agwogie are 72 staff of the selected schools consisting of teachers, Counsellors and Vice Principals, 7 officials of Lagos Ministries of Education, Health, Youth/ Social Development as well as 16,000 students.In her remark, the Tutor General/ Permanent Secretary, Education District 2, Maryland, Lagos, Mrs. Anike Adekanye warned students to be wary of taking any drink that is coloured in any way from people as this can make them vulnerable there being a victimAlways set you goals, know those things that can enhance your progress and avoid things that can hinder you said Adekanye represented by the Director, Head of Guidance/ Counselling Unit, Education Dist. 2, Olori Adeyemi Kalejaiye.
