1 killed in Yobe, many wounded Tension in Borno

Demonstrators in Potiskum, Yobe State, barricaded thePotiskum/Kano and Potiskum/Bauchi roads in protest against the out- come of the result.Nigerian Tribune reported that two churches were burnt down, one person killed while many others were wounded as a result of the protest.Itis believed in some sections of the north that former head of state and presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), General Muhammadu Buhari, won, but that the results were manipulated.The violence in Yobe began when rumours spread that northerners in the South Eastern states were prevented from voting in the election.According to Dahiru Mamman, an eyewitness, the protest has no basis. People here are illiterates. We have not heard any northerner in Lagos or Enugu that had come outto say he or she had been prevented from voting. We all know that, Buhari cannot command votes as Jonathan in that part of the country. For how long shall we continue like thisHe said Potiskum was prone to violence, but wondered why people should be protesting in places where Buhari had won and going as far as burning houses and killing others.Already in Borno State, there had been tension as some citizens were up in arms to protest the outcome of the presidential result butthey were intercepted by security personnel who were already in patrol.
