VEDA Technology, one of Nigerias fast developing IT companies, recently got a clean bill from the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). The development came after the clearing house for IT projects in the public sector in Nigeria visited the companys factory in Lagos.According to the Director General, of the agency, Prof. Cleopas Angaye, as a country, we must begin to produce computers that can sustain Nigerias environmental situation. Veda Technology is one of the emerging companies in the country that can stand in this area.We want to discourage purchasing of imported products, and encourage the locally made products, especially in the areas of information technology. This is part of the governments original equipment manufacturer (OEM) policy. We must patronise local software and hardware manufacturers to enable the development of IT in Nigeria. It is a software policy aimed at encouraging development in Nigeria. The agency, with its commitment to the drive of bringing government and its services closer to the people through IT, had a year ago, visited the companys factory on assessment of its production facilities.Angaye said, computers breakdown and how to fix them and the capacity handle them is a challenge. One of the things consumers want to see is partnership in purchasing equipment, after sales backup. The computers must be configured in a way that it will be friendly to the environment. Veda Technology meets these standards and they have been on the passing grade, he said.He stressed that the quest for IT in Nigeria is increasing by the day, especially with more youths going into tertiary institutions. He urged both private and public agencies to collaborate to close the digital divide in the country because as Nigerians we are ready and hungry for the Internet and the quest for Internet across the length and breadth of the country was increasing. The company Managing Director, Bode Pedro stated that Veda Technology has as its vision, to become a leader in the growth and development of information and communication technology in Africa. As a product of two years of research and development, we want to build the best technology platform in this region.
