Makarfi appeals to supporters for calm

Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, who lost to the candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Dr Datti Baba Ahmed, at the just concluded Northern Kaduna Senatorial election, has urged his supporters to remain calm and continue to work for the growth of Nigerian democracy.Makarfi, in a statement issued to newsmen in Kaduna, at the weekend, by his media consultant, Mukhtar Sirajo, thanked the Almighty Allah for all that He had been doing for him and extended his appreciation to the people of the his senatorial zone for their support for him as the Senator representing them in the past four years as well as the enthusiasm of many of them to work towards his return to the same position.He also appreciates the outpouring of support and well wishes from people of Kaduna State and indeed all well-wishers from across the country as he strove to continue to render the same services to his people.As results of the senatorial contest in the Northern Senatorial Zone of the state have been announced and a winner declared, even in the face of the reservations of many people on the conduct of the election and the results declaration, Senator Makarfi wishes to appeal to all to remain calm and peaceful, he said.He believes that imperfect as our electoral system still is, we owe a duty to current and generations yet unborn to put all hands on deck to ensure the maturation of our democratic processes and institutions, he said.
