Ikole assures Federal Varsity VC of security, cooperation

The people of Ikole in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, have assured the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University in Ekiti State, Professor Chinedu Nebo, of the cooperation of the community for the smooth take-off and sustainability of the institution.The Elekole of Ikole Ekiti and the paramount ruler of Egbeoba Kingdom, Oba Adewumi Fasiku, who gave the assurance at a reception held for Professor Nebo in the community during the vice chancellor's visit to the take off site of the campus of the university, expressed optimism that the structures at the site donated to the university would ease its smooth take-off.Oba Fasiku, who led 24 other traditional rulers in the Egbeoba Kingdom to receive the Vice Chancellor and his team, explained that the community had set aside adequate and suitable accommodation for the principal officers and other members of staff of the university, adding that '15 befitting houses are available at various locations within the community to accommodate the pioneer staff of the institution.'The traditional ruler urged Professor Nebo to discard any wrong impression he must have been given on the issue of the university, especially about the issue of security in the community, saying the Ikole Ekiti was peaceful and suitable for learning.Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Nebo stressed the need for peaceful co-existence among the communities in the area for the dream of making Ekiti State an 'industrial wonder in food production in the country' to come true.He said he would strive hard to ensure that his mission and vision in the university came to fruition despite that the scarce resources for the procurement of technology for modern agriculture in the university, saying 'with what I have seen today, I am determined to make Ekiti the food production centre in Nigeria.'He said 'I am also happy that neither Oye nor Ikole-Ekiti lost out in the struggle for the location of the university, so what we need now is convivial environment to operate,' pointing out that the faculties of Science and Humanity would be in Oye campus, while those of Agriculture and Engineering would commence in Ikole-Ekiti campus.He expressed the hope that the university would commence in both campuses in January 2012 with the four faculties, adding that 'I will put up facilities that can make our students to be globally competitive and relevant.
