Kano police boss seeks ways to strenghten community relations

THE Kano State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubakar Idris, has identified public cooperation as a critical factor in efforts to reduce crime rate in the state.The commissioner made this known at the opening of a one-week sensitisation programme organised by the Police Community Relations Committee in Kano (PCRC), while soliciting the public's support in the fight against criminal activities.According to the commissioner, the sensitisation week was organised to enhance cooperation between the police and the community towards ensuring security of lives and property.'The sensitisation week is to create awareness among the members of the public, especially okada riders association, NURTW and other bodies which can help the Police in tracing criminals around the state.'Idris noted the warm reception from Kano citizens on his arrival , saying that it proved to him that he could solicit their support to combat crime rate in the state.He said that the police command was open to ideas, adding that they had created suggestion boxes to receive enquiries, complaints and suggestions from the public.The commissioner said that the boxes were kept at strategic locations such as hospitals and motor parks.NAN reported that the one-week sensitisation had been organised in Kano by the Police command in collaboration with the Police -Community Relations Committee in the state.
