THE Dutchman scored two late goals - with his strike on 85 I minutes putting Arsenal ahead courtesy of a howling error from John Terry - as the visitors came from behind twice to earn their first away win since April and their eighth victory in nine matches m all competitions.Terry, who was backed by manager Andre Villas-Boas over an ongoing race row, had scored to put Chelsea 2-1 up earlier in the match but, at 3-3, he slipped while trying to control Ashley Cole's pass, with Van Persie latching on to the ball, rounding Petr Cech and taking his second goal of the match. Frank Lampard had opened the scoring for the hosts, with Van Persie equalising and Terry putting Chelsea ahead on thestroke of half time.Goals from Andre Santos - who otherwise had a terrible match - and the excellent Theo Walcott had put Arsenal 3-2 up before Juan Mata thought he had given Chelsea a draw with a wonderful curling effort. But Van Persie exploited Terry's fall and added an injury-time fifth as Chelsea over-committed, the Dutchman highlighting why it is vital Arsenal tie him down to a long-term contract as soon aspossible. The victory will be a huge boost to Arsenal, who started the season badly but appear to have regained confidence after their horror run that started with their Carling Cup final defeat to Birmingham City last Spring. However it should not paper over the cracks of some poor defending by the Gunners, with the aforementioned Santos and Germany centre-back Per Mertesacker at fault for a goal apiece and, in tandem, Chelsea's opener. The Blues, however, were just as abject at the back as Terry and the ordinarily solid Cech had days to forget. Chelsea missed Didier Drogba, who has bagged 13 goals in 14 games against the Gunners -out it was some terrible defending from the hosts which cost them more. While action-packed and entertaining, the game was marked by some major errors, both in defence and attack. The first incident of note came in the opening minute, when Johan Djourou's sloppiness let Cole in: the Swiss defender was spared by an excellent intervention by Laurent Koscielny with Fernando Torres set to finish. Minutes later Daniel Sturridge was put clean through and, with the option of finishing from an angle or handing Torres a tap-in, the youngster fluffed his lines and passed straight to Wojciech Szczesny. That miss was bad enough but the two that followed down the other end of the pitch were even worse: both came from excellent crosses by the in-form Walcott, the first a blunder as Gervinho dragged a simple finish wide and the second poor by Van Persie's standards as he fired over from a similar position. Chelsea made them pay minutes later, with bungling duo Santos and Mertesacker at fault as the former let Mata get around him far too easily, while the Germany defender - who like the Brazilian had a poor game - fell weakly when Lampard connected with the cross, burying the header into the bottom right corner. There was another miss for Sturridge on the half-hour mark, mis-hitting across goal and wide after being sent one-on-one by Lampard's beautifully-weighted long pass, and Arsenal -who had more than matched the hosts in terms of possession and endeavour - drew level soon afterwards.
