Ugbomro community alleges fresh oil spillage

There was indication that a fresh oilspillage has occurred in Ugbomro community, in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, causing more damages in the community.The leadership of the community led by High Chief Tadafe Olugor JP, Unuevworo of Uvwue Kingdom and Ugbomro community, confirmed that the spillage occurred as a result of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) equipment failure on 13th October, 2011.It was gathered that SPDC had approached the community on how to send relief materials to the community, but admitted the spillage was due to its equipment failure.Meanwhile, the community had written to the Delta State House of Assembly, through its Committee on Oil & Gas and Environment to prevail on SPDC to immediately send relief materials to the community.The letter which was signed by Chief Olughor JP, a copy which was made available to newsmen, the community is asking the House to order for a joint investigation on the spillage and the subsequent damages done to the community.The community was also asking the House to compel SPDC to pay compensation to Ugbomro community for the loss it has suffered due to the spillage.
