Delta: Nsukwa community protests death of 18-year old

The people of Nsukwa community in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State have appealed to the State Commissioner of Police and other security agencies not to allow the alleged murder of one 18-year old Chizoba Opute of Ikokogbe quarters Nsukwa, to be swept under the carpet, as some persons were trying to do.In a two-page letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Delta State and signed by the President General of Nsukwa Community Development Union, Chief Thomas Nwozubu, the people lamented that it will be unfair and unjust to allow the cause of justice to be manipulated in the matter, adding that a situation where murder suspects were granted bail even when an autopsy report to verify the cause of the teenager's death has not been released, left much to be desired.The President-General lamented that the granting of bail to those arrested in connection with the murder by the police may jeopardise the on-going investigation into the matter, adding that the people of the community were not on hunger strike over the arrest of the men, contrary to what the people were made to believe.Chief Nwozubu who called on the police to carry out a thorough and an unbias investigation into the circumstance that lead to the death of the late Chizoba Opute who was allegedly murdered and his body dumped in an uncompleted building sometime in the night of 23rd July, 2012, while returning home with three of his peers after watching an European football match, hinted that it was members of Nsukwa vigilance group who should tell the police what happened to the deceased. 'After all, available information from his peers who were with him that night, showed it was members of the vigilance who chased them while they were going home.While the three boys managed to escape, late Chizoba never did,' explained the town's union president-general.While saying that bringing the perpetrators of the heinous crime to justice was what will bring peace to the community, Chief Nwozubu affirmed that no amount of effort to sweep the crime under the carpet will succeed.Reacting to the development when contacted, the Obi of Nsukwa, Kenneth Ezegbunem I, said the deceased was a son to him like any other Nsukwa son, adding that while his death was unfortunate, it was his duty to make peace in the community. 'I'm not taken side on the matter. I don't belong to any side, all I'm trying to do is to see how we can resolve the matter,' explained the Obi.
