Robbers' resurgence frightens Emure-Ise-Ikere road users

The people of Emure Ekiti have raised the alarm over what they said was the resurgence of armed robbers on the Emure ' Ise ' Ikere road.According to members of the community, the robbery on the Emure-Ise-Ikere road which had been curbed in the recent past had, again, become a common occurrence on the road in recent times.They claimed that reports of armed robbery on the road had been mounting, with traders and motorists being the worst victims of the recent development.Speaking with newsmen, Chairman of the Police-Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Emure Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Mr. Tunde Oni, called the attention of the Ekiti State Police Command to the resurgence of robbery on the road, saying the development had heightened tension in the community.According to Oni, 'they rob daily on the road and have instilled fear in the minds of the people,' adding that 'in the last three weeks, there have been not less than three robbery incidences reported in the community.'The Emure PCRC leader pointed out that 'People are robbed of their money, mobile telephones and other valuables,' adding that 'this has affected economic and social life in the community.'He pleaded with the police authorities in the state to device a means to curb the resurgence, which he retiterated had cost the community a lot in terms of the economic and social life.Before now, the communities in Ise/Orun and Emure Local Government areas of Ekiti State had been under the siege of robbers on the Ikere ' Ise ' Emure road until it became an issue at a community stakeholders meeting initiated by the state Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation.Following the report at the meeting in which members of various communities were briefed of the state government activities, the police and other security agencies increased surveillance on the road, thereby ending the menace.Police sources in the state said the report of the development would be looked into, adding that the matter would not be left lying low as the police in the state had ensured the safety of life and property in every part of the state.
