What do Certain Numbers Mean When Featured Within Tattoos?

Published by Punch on Mon, 22 Jan 2024

/

It would be nearly impossible to imagine life as we know it without the presence of numbers. We are not only talking about practical considerations such as calculating a bank account balance or determining the distance to a nearby town, but numbers serve an equally crucial role in terms of entertainment. So, it makes just as much sense that numbers feature prominently within many tattoos. Lets take a look at some common examples as well as a handful of surprising meanings that you might not be entirely aware of.

All About Personalisation

The most well-known purpose of numbers within tattoos involves their ability to signify an important date or life event. Examples include a birthday, a marriage or (for those who enjoy a bit of dark humour) a divorce. Another trend has been to tattoo your lucky numbers for whatever reason: it gave you a roulette payout when playing it at Spincasino, or maybe it was a winner number in the lottery or any other draw. There are times when these are known to others while in other instances, the numbers may instead hold a cryptic meaning (such as the use of a series of Roman numerals). Of course, this will ultimately be determined by the recipient of the tattoo in question.

Silently Conveying Specific Beliefs

Numbers can also be used to illustrate personal or religious beliefs. For instance, the sequence 3:16 is used to describe how the son of God sacrificed himself in order to save humanity. Similar numbers can be employed when quoting other texts such as the Quran or even a specific passage from Shakespeare.

We should also point out that tattoo numbers can often serve more practical purposes. It makes a great deal of sense to use a series to summarise a quotation as opposed to physically writing out the very same phrase (especially if you are paying by the hour). Either way, numbers are excellent ways to convey a sense of mystery to the viewer.

Whats the Deal with "Angel Numbers"

Another emerging trend can be seen in the form of so-called "angel" numbers. These numbers are said to signify spiritual traits that combine elements of numerology, astrological and the zodiac. In other words, they offer a decidedly mystical appeal. Here are some examples as well as what they are believed to mean:
  • 000: New beginnings
  • 333: Divine guidance
  • 555: Life changes
  • 777: Luck
  • 999: Release from a specific life cycle or graduating to a new spiritual plane
Angel numbers have enjoyed a growing popularity thanks in no small part to their promotion across the Internet although astrologists claim that they have existed for hundreds of years.

Whether you are considering your first tattoo or you have been looking for an original design idea, incorporating numbers can be a great option. Feel free to perform additional research, as plenty of information can be found across the Internet.
